Mask

Finally, the mask is finished. I would never have thought that so much work could have gone into that mask. But it did and it was fun.
The main colours used were rich reds, pinks, orange and yellow. These helped me create the hay vibe from the dog part of my mask. Also to make the dog feature stand out i made the ears really floppy and playful looking. The ears are a bright pink which then flows down into a dark red up into a light yellow towards the nose. The nose on my mask is that of the cheetah as is most of the facial features. The nose is in the middle of eight pink whiskers that fade out into a white making them look soft, by using the cool colors. The tangled whiskers draw attention to one of the main features on the mask, the cheetah eyes. Here the pink/orange colour of the mussel is cut off by the long black tear stains. I wanted this part to stand out because the point of my mask was that even though it looked happy on the outside ( bright colours) it can still be sad on the inside (hence the tear stains).Another big feature on my mask is the lion mane. Here I used colours that represent fire to show the fierce part of the lion. This mane covers almost the whole outside of my mask. The red colour at the base of the mane then covers the whole back of my mask. To make the back of the mask more interesting, i added some flowing whites and pinks to make it more lively.
Overall, I thought this project was really fun and I really enjoyed doing it. :)

Wednesday May 28th

Today I finnished my third layer and am onto my fourth, Im going to try an get some photos of my mask in the current stage to out on the blog so I can keep track of my progress. I think for next lesson im going to work REALLY fast and complete the whole fourth layer so I can piant in the lesson that follows.

Wednesday May 28th

Tuesday May 27

Today I worked on paper mache surprise surprise, I'm almost on the fourth layer then I can start to paint. I'm a bit worried that when i start painting i will ruin the mask because I'm handicapped with a paint brush :S

Friday May 23

Today I worked on paper mache some more... Im now onto the third layer and its going good. Ive been thinking about how im going to paint this... Im not going to use proper animal colors, I might use pale colors like pale green, pink, blue and maybe yellow and white. I want a big focus to be on the Cheetah eyes because i think they are the most important part of my mask.

Thursday May 21

I have been doing paper mache for a while now I am on my second layer and I am ahead of most pepople in the class, which is pretty cool since i used to always be the last person completing my work.

Wednesday May 14

Today i started paper mache. There are a few tips that you need to know about it. The most important would have to be that when u rip the newspaper, you have to rip it the way that words are going for a nice even strip. You also have to use small pieces so you can put the paper around corners easily, this helps to reduce the amount of bumps you will have when you start to paint.

Tuesday may 13

Im almost done my design. Next lesson I will start to do paper mache. I tried to build out the mane on my mask but it didnt work and it fell apart so I didnt go on to complete that.

Thursday may 8 and Friday May 9

(Thursday)

Today I finnished using the masking tape for my mask and I started to put features onto it, I have started to do my doggy nose and ears and I cut out the basic shape for my lion mane.

(Friday)

Ive taped my mane onto the cheetahs head and I have started do create the eyes,
The features I have so far now that are on my mask would be the Cheetah eyes, dog nose, Lion mane . later on I think that I will build out some features so it blends into the head.

Wednesday April 30th

Today I worked on designing the shape that I wanted for my animal mask. I am goign good and I think that I will be very happy with the way this is turning out. I am enjoying doing this for Art and I have been thinking that I will continue to do art next year in grade 9

Tuesday April 29

Today we worked on filling our masks up with newspaper and then we started to tape our mask to form the shape that we wanted. Next lesson we will probably continue to do this until we get that basic shape,, then I imagine that we will then start to put important features onto it.

Wednesday 30, May

Today Mrs.Hampton was away. We had a sub and we worked on our blogs. We received homework from pbwiki.com which we worked on for the majority of the lesson.

Tuesday,29.May

Today we started to make our masks. We used a garbage bag that we filled with scrunched up newspaper for our base. We then added features to the mask using newspaper, cardboard and masking tape. I got up to the ears of my mask in this lesson. Its a bit tricky making the ears identical as they would be in real life.

Thursday,24, May

Today I finnished my drawing of my mask. We had to draw four different views of our mask. They were; whole, detail, eyes and texture. After the lesson our homework was to complete a top , side and front view of our mask. This will help later on while we are making them.

April 2nd - Computer lab

Today's lesson was in the computer lab. I found an ink drawing that I drew a few days ago .I had to put it onto photoshop CS2. I then had to rotate it and save it to my H drive. I then put it onto my blog.
For the rest of the lesson I wrote my reflections and worked on how my overall blog looked.

Ink Drawing

This is a picture of a teddy bear that I copied from a toy. I really enjoyed doing this work.

Important Information

LINE--For many art students as well as professional artists, Line seems to be one of the important Elements of Art. Imagine creating a painting, sculpture or design without drawing lines to divide the paper or canvas into recognizable shapes and forms. Think about how important a role Line plays in the creation process. Lines can communicate an idea or express a feeling. They can appear static or active. Lines define objects.

In this pen and ink drawing, the artist creates a beautiful image of two woman. The lines are soft and flowing giving the viewer the impression of elegance, softness and femininity. Beardsley uses curved lines to capture the lines of the elegant costumes worn by the woman

Texture-Texture is the illusion of a three-dimensional surface. We use our hands to feel real Texture. . Artists strive very hard to imitate the look and feel of real Texture in works of art. Perhaps an artist can't "make" the bark of a tree in his landscape "feel" like real bark, but the viewer will "see" the Texture and be able to associate it with the rough feel of actual bark. Artists are masters of deception. In some works, the viewer is tempted to actually reach out and touch a work of art because it looks like it has a Texture. They are surprised to feel only brushstrokes or a flat surface. The eye is tricked into seeing a "real" Texture. Other artist purposefully add a "felt" texture to the surface of their work. This allows the viewer to see actual Texture and appreciate the interest Texture gives to a piece of art.

This is a self-portrait. That means that the artist painted a picture of him/her self. The thick application of the paint and the use of many colors to accent the paint strokes gives this painting a Textured quality.
